The Daily Challenge
Once a day, every player in the world flies exactly the same course. It is the fairest way to compare scores, and the best way to earn coins.
What Makes It Different
In a normal run the columns, gaps and creatures are different every time. In the daily challenge they are fixed for the day: the same column heights, the same gaps, the same creatures in the same places, for everyone who plays.
That changes how you play. In a normal run you react. In the daily challenge you can learn: if a tricky gap ended your first attempt, it will be in exactly the same place on your second. Your score also means something to other people, because a friend's 30 and your 30 were flown through the same sky.
No server is needed for this, and none is involved. The course is built from today's date, so every copy of the game in the world arrives at the same one on its own.
When It Changes
A new course starts at midnight UTC, the same instant everywhere. Where that falls on your clock depends on where you live:
| Where you are | A new course arrives at |
|---|---|
| India | 5:30 in the morning |
| United Kingdom | Midnight in winter, 1 a.m. in summer |
| New York | 7 p.m. in winter, 8 p.m. in summer |
| Singapore | 8 in the morning |
Using one time for the whole world is deliberate. If the course changed at each player's own midnight, someone could fly tomorrow's course early by changing the clock on their phone.
The Coin Bonus
Every daily run pays a bonus of 3 coins for every point you score, up to 150 coins a day. 150 coins is reached at 50 points.
| Your best daily score today | Bonus coins |
|---|---|
| 5 | 15 |
| 10 | 30 |
| 20 | 60 |
| 35 | 105 |
| 50 or more | 150 (the most there is) |
The bonus is paid on your best score of the day, not on every run. Fly 20, and you get 60 coins. Fly 30 later the same day, and you get the extra 30 coins to bring you up to 90. A worse attempt pays nothing more, but costs nothing either, so it is always worth another try. The coins arrive by themselves when the run ends.
That makes the daily challenge the quickest way for a new player to save up for a first power. A 20-point daily every day earns 420 coins a week from the bonus alone, before counting the coins you pick up while flying.
How to Play It Well
- Treat your first attempt as a scouting run. Do not worry about the score. Notice where the hard gaps and the creatures are.
- Remember the hard parts. The course does not change all day, so the gap that caught you will be waiting in the same place.
- Warm up first. Attempts are unlimited, but a couple of normal runs get your rhythm going before you start chasing a daily score.
- Come back later in the day. There is no limit on attempts. A fresh try in the evening often beats ten tries in a row.
- Aim for the next 10. Every 10 points is another 30 coins, so pushing from 20 to 30 is worth as much as your whole first ten points.
Your Day Streak
Separately from the daily challenge, the game counts how many days in a row you have opened it. From your second day, a small streak badge appears on the title screen, and your longest streak is kept in the Record screen. Missing a day starts the count again from one.
Your streak and your daily scores are saved in your browser on the device you play on. Playing on a different phone or browser starts a separate record.
Challenge Your Friends
After any run, tap Share on the Game Over card to send your score to a friend. The link you send carries your score, so when your friend opens it the game shows them exactly what they have to beat, gives them 100 coins to start, and pays them 50 more if they beat you. You earn 20 coins for sharing, up to three shares a day. The full rules are on the birds and coins page.
Ready? Open the game and tap Daily Challenge on the title screen.
